Here's something that was on CraigsList yesterday (since pulled) and follwed by an e-mail forwarded to me by a friend. The posting is starkly different than the personal e-mail.

I have since written both Andie Grace and Maid Marian of the Communications Department of BMorg to inquire about this and am awaiting a response.

Subject ABC TV: Looking for BURNERS
Message Hi Abject,

I'm a casting producer for ABC TV. We're researching
Burners in hopes of featuring a family of Burners on
our primetime reality show WIFE SWAP. I'm wondering if
you'd consider posting my search and sharing it with
your tribe.

All families featured on the show receive a $20,000
honorarium. If you refer a family that we feature on
the show you receive $1,000.

Potential families can live anywhere in the United
States, but we ask that families applying for the show
consist of two parents and have at least one child,
age 5 or older, living at home.

Casting immediately.

Thanks,

Rachelle

MAN I hope no one bites- like we need yet another way for the media to make burners look like freaks or idiots.

People often think people look like freaks or idiots when they don’t understand what they are looking at. Always it depends on the presenter to create an environment for people to see an event and understand or not. Look at DaBomb, she is creating an environment through BurnCast for people hear and understand what Burning Man is. Sorry Bombster, but you do fall under the definition of media.

MEDIA a. A means of mass communication, such as newspapers, magazines, radio, or television

I think we forget that media just doesn’t mean organizations that get paid to present mass communication.

Well, yes, good points- but "Wife Swap" is NOT the forum to do anything but look like a freak in some (not positive) way.

agreed.

a moderator on one of the artcar groups I belong to, contacted one of the reps listed and found that the offer is legit; that they have no intention of filming either during or at BM, but are sincerely looking for a burner styled "family". you'd think they'd have plenty of fodder with Jerry Springer's pool o' talent...

I find the American phenomena of being on TV at any price to become FAMOUS just about the stupidest thing ever. I never knew a TV show called Wife Swap existed until I read this string. (Sorry, I like to watch movies and….ok….Project Runway. I have been told by the gay boys in my camp that because of my liking of Project Runway they are crowing me an Honorary Queen for the entire week of the burn.) Still, do you really think you are such the shit that you are going to become the next big thing because you were on TV?

Besides that I never have been approached by media types on or off the playa. I guess that since I’m an old boy (old-yes I am old. Boy-stupid like boy) and don’t have enormous man boobs like Chai Guy I don’t bugged. (I hear that Chai is leading the Critical Tits parade this year) Just remember that one persons Freak is another persons Normal.

Trust me on this- I seen parts of the show a few times, and they are NOT looking for "normal" anything- they're looking for someone with an interesting hook that will be a good contender to fuck up someone's head.

As in: They don't want a normal burner, they want a freakazoid who's going to make the other mom sleep on a playa dust-covered air mattress outside in the rain, get her hair dreaded up and blue, and eat only c-rations cooked over a camp stove.

So Chai Guy and his enormous man-boobs would be what the show is looking for.
